Getting Started

Sometimes the hardest part of anything you do is getting started. Not because you are lazy but because you do not know where to start.

If I had a pound for every time I thought to myself "where do I start" then I would be quite wealthy.

On this page I am going to give you some questions you need to ask yourself so you can be in a position to get started.

Ok lets go...

Where am I going to grow my beans?

  • Do I have an allotment or a vegetable patch?

  • Will I grow them up the fence planted in the flower bed?

  • Will I grow them in grow bags on the patio or in the back yard?

  • Can I even use grow bags or pots?

Check out the soil and position page.

Why grow runner beans?

  • For the flowers?

  • For the beans?

  • For the fun of it?

Only you can answer this question.

What variety will be best for my situation?

  • Are there fast growing varieties?

  • Are some prettier than others?

  • Will some produce more beans?

  • Do they all have red flowers?

Check out the varieties page.

When can i get started?

  • What time of year do I start?

  • Do I need a green house or poly tunnel?

  • What is a poly tunnel?

  • Do I start from seeds or cuttings?

  • Can I start them in the window sill?

check out the sow and grow page.
