Organic Runner Beans

In my opinion organic growing is the way to go for small home based or allotment vegetable growing. Admittedly it is harder work but well worth the effort.

There will be a lot of digging and weeding and then more weeding.

First you need to prepare your soil with your own organic kitchen waste as described in soil and position.

If its a weedy area then thoroughly dig the ground and turn the soil removing any weeds and continuously check for new weeds and remove as soon as you spot them.

You then need to choose your seeds and you have 2 options. You can go for an organic seed itself or you can go for a seed that has been developed for organic gardeners that is mostly resistant to pests and disease.

For the organic seed then Alan Titchmarsh has a range of seeds including the Scarlet Emperor runner bean.

For the seed that is used by organic gardeners and is less prone to disease then the try the Hestia Dwarf or the Red Rum variety.

You will still need to keep an eye for pests and diseases and there are some tips on the pest and diseases page to help with this.

There is an organic grow bag available which is ideal.

There is also available some organic fertilizers which can be used.

As a final note there are some good books on organic gardening that could be useful.
